Conscious Consumerism

Fashion houses, retailers, and up and coming designers continue to join the sustainable and ethical bandwagon, launching international initiatives focusing on Conscious Consumerism.

Such initiatives help us become aware of the demands we place on fashion, encouraging us to buy less and borrow more, opt for organic and recycled materials, upcycle old clothes, and cold wash or air dry clothing and textiles.

I constantly look for ways to reduce, reuse and recycle, and lean more towards buying less, borrowing more and creating different outfits with the same pieces.

I use local and online dress hire services, that offer a great range of garments at an affordable price and are quick to deliver; I frequently scourer racks at clothing swap events; And when I do buy, I look to fill the gaps in my capsule wardrobe and replace key pieces and my essentials which no longer fit or flatter.

During my Personal Styling Sessions, I encourage others to be more mindful and reassess their own demands on the fashion industry.

I suggest clients donate and/or purchase secondhand clothing (in good condition), reuse old textiles as cleaning rags, and where possible recycle / upcycle old textiles to reconstruct new garments.

I assist clients to build a capsule wardrobe, which mix and match to incorporate all aspects of their lifestyle.

I suggest hand picking accessories to complete an outfit and encourage mindfully constructing a look from head to toe. Adding layers and dimensions to each and every outfit, creates coordination, simplifies morning dressing practices and reduces unwanted excess.
